Centre for Advancement of Chinese Language and Education and Research (CACLER) of Faculty of Education in the University of Hong Kong organised the Summer Institute sharing series inviting principals, teachers and curriculum coordinators highlighting their precious experiences in learning and teaching in 4 lessons. We are grateful to have invited Ms Rowena Cheung Po-man, principal of Hong Kong Taoist Association Wun Tsuen School to be our tutor for the first lesson. The team in HKTA Wun Tsuen School utilises the advantages of various cultures to organise a multicultural school-based learning curriculum, which gains support from parents.
Prof. K. K. Chan of the Faculty of Education in the University of Hong Kong reflects that Principal Cheung’s sharing provides the whole framework with a macro perspective to overview the development of Wun Tsuen School’s curriculum. Prof. Chan points out that Principal Cheung’s sharings have already involved discourses of bilingual education, positive education, self-directed learning, VASK (Values, Attitudes, Skills and Knowledge), transition at the interface of kindergarten to primary school and primary school to secondary school, and more. The experience of Wun Tsuen School provides the practical experiences for researchers and teachers to amend, update and generate education theories.
“Every student is a star,” said Principal Cheung. For Prof. K. K. Chan, “every school, every teacher, and every student is a star,” and shines for better education.
