The workshop "Using Drama to Teach Chinese as a Second Language: A Sample Scheme Illustrating Possible Strategies" was successfully held on October 8, 2016 (Saturday) at Studio 303, Chong Yuet Ming Cultural Centre, The University of Hong Kong. It was our great honour to have a renowned international expert in drama education, Professor Joe WINSTON (Professor of Drama and Arts Education, University of Warwick), as our invited speaker. The workshop discussed the significant pedagogical relationship between drama education and approaches to teaching Chinese as a second language (TCSL), and provided hands-on experience in drama to the participants. Prof. Winston demonstrated different drama strategies and conventions in understanding pedagogical approaches in second language acquisition, such as "Still Image", "Teacher-in-Role", "Interviews-in-Role", and "Writing in role", all of which are sufficiently flexible to respond to the needs in a wide range of pedagogical and cultural contexts in Hong Kong. The workshop attracted an audience of more than 60 in-service teachers, educational researchers and students.
