The Project aims to provide six classes of Basic Courses and two classes of Advanced Courses for teacher professional development on supporting the learning of Chinese for Non-Chinese Speaking Students in Kindergartens. Each class will have a minimum size of 25 Participants and a maximum class size of 40 Participants, serving 320 kindergarten teachers in total. The Basic Course aims to equip participants acquiring the core skills in enhancing NCS students’ Chinese abilities while the Advanced Course aims to equip them with a broadened and deepened view on effective learning and curriculum development. The Basic Course will be designed with a focus on practical approaches to enhancing students’ language abilities, while the Advanced Course will be an integration of theory and practice. Topics of the Basic Course will be focusing on language learning in classroom contexts, and the Advanced Course would go beyond the specific contexts and incorporate knowledge and strategies related to general learning mechanisms (e.g. self-regulated learning) and system-level measures at schools (e.g. lesson observation and curriculum development).
