This two-year project aims to 1) analyse sample scripts for a total of about 700 scripts on writing and 700 scripts on reading from schools with different levels of Chinese proficiency as far as practicable; 2) present the NCS students’ standards in Chinese Language in terms of specific descriptions illustrated by annotated examples and/or quantifiers as appropriate and rough proportion of NCS students meeting the standards, and identify the gap if any, as compared to the basic competencies of a typical Chinese-speaking students in terms of what he/she could do in the domains of writing and reading Chinese for each ability group broadly referred to as High, Medium and Low on a territory-wide basis in Chinese proficiency at each of Key Stage I (P1-3), II (P4-6), III (S1-3) and IV (S4-6).
