The project aims to provide teachers with research-based knowledge and materials, and to enhance their professional capabilities in curriculum planning and teaching of Chinese Language for non-Chinese speaking students in local primary and secondary schools. The deliverables shall be developed on the base of the following research questions - (a) What are the difficulties that NCS students encounter in learning Chinese Language? How can these difficulties be addressed through systematic curriculum planning with in schools? (b) How can teachers develop school-based Chinese Language curriculum with reference to the Chinese Language Curriculum Second Language Learning Framework to bring about meaningful and progressive language learning for NCS students (including goal setting, module and lesson design, use of learning materials and strategies) and to cater for learner diversity in class? (c) How can teachers develop school-based assessment strategies for enhancing the effectiveness of the language learning for NCS students?
