The paper “The Influence of the Language that Hong Kong Primary School Students Habitually Speak at Home on their Chinese Reading Ability in School” published in the Journal for Multilingual and Multicultural Development, Volume 28, Number 5, 2007, won the inaugural Richard M. Wolf Memorial Award, an award granted to researchers by the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement. The award was presented to Professor Tse Shek Kam at the IEA General Assembly 2007 in HKU from 8 to 11 October 2007.
The Dick Wolf Memorial Award has been established by IEA in recognition of the significant contributions made to the field of educational research by the late Dick Wolf, professor of educational measurement at Teachers’ College, Columbia University in the United States. The award, which takes the form of a certificate and a prize of €500, is given annually to the author or authors of a paper published in a refereed journal, monograph, or book that includes analysis of data from one or more IEA studies. The award is available annually; however, the IEA Awards Committee may, in a given year, decide that no award should be made.
