USP-PROS 1: Teacher Professional Development Courses on teaching Chinese for Non-Chinese Speaking Students | ||||||||||||
A series of Culturally Responsive Professional Development (PD) Programme has been implemented to enhance and strengthen teachers’ professional capacity and their teaching effectiveness of teaching Chinese to NCS students. Instead of single seminars, each unit in the PD programme is consisting of around 4 sessions plus follow-up session(s) on a focused topic. Teacher participants in the PD programme will be required to apply what they gain in the programmes to their schools and classrooms to develop good practice, and to share this practice over one to two months after the lectures and workshops. Knowledge would be generated from the Professional Development (PD) programme. | ||||||||||||

This series of Courses is part of the services of ‘University-School Support Programme: Supporting Secondary Schools in the Teaching and Learning of Chinese for non-native learners (2011-13)’. This project aims 1) to improve on the learning & teaching (L/T) effectiveness of Chinese Language for NCS students in both designated and non-designated schools in Hong Kong; 2) to enhance the capability of teachers in the L/T of Chinese Language for NCS students by nurturing them as curriculum leaders, facilitators of learning and action researchers in schools; and 3) to enlighten the education community of Hong Kong on the theory and practices adopted for the L/T of the Chinese Language for NCS students.
