Knowledge Exchange Forum (9) - Common Misconceptions in Teaching Vocabulary
Abstract:
Teaching vocabulary is an important part of mother-tongue teaching. Teaching vocabulary could improve students’ skill of listening, speaking, reading and writing, facilitating their cognition and mind. However, vocabulary learning in Chinese language education is not valued as important juxtaposed with teaching English language. We interviewed 20 P.4 Chinese language teachers to understand their view on teaching vocabulary. The interviews reflect 8 common misconceptions in teaching vocabulary, for example, dictation is the only assessment instrument. This webinar analyses the common misconceptions and provides educational practices, strategies and techniques for teaching vocabulary.
