Knowledge Exchange Forum (10) Series of Multicultural Early Childhood Chinese Education: Teaching Materials and Pedagogies for EM Preschoolers Learning Chinese
Abstract
What kind of materials could facilitate multicultural preschoolers' Chinese reading ability? Dr. Wai Ip, Lam’s research includes teaching Chinese to culturally and linguistically diverse students. Dr. Lam utilises the concepts of frame in applied cognitive linguistics on sharing storybooks suitable for ethnic minorities children learning Chinese, thus to develop a storybook-based language focused curriculum.
This knowledge exchange forum is segregated into three sections. Dr. Lam first introduces the basic concept of frame in linguistics, followed by the examples of published storybooks for kindergartens to elaborate the notions of frame and language focused curriculum. The last section concludes and extends the discussion to the general strategies for EM preschoolers learning Chinese.
