This project, collaborated with the Division of Speech and Hearing Sciences, will focus on the art of singing voices of Leung Yi Chung and Leung So Kam and their contribution to the development of their “Leung Style” singing voice. Apart from studying the heritage and culture of Cantonese opera in an ethnographical way, it will also study the unique voice of the “Leung Style” singing from the scientific perspective. The speech and hearing specialist will use acoustic measurements (voice recording) to compare the special voice ("hong") with a normal (or standard) Cantonese opera singing voice or to use an endoscope to view the vocal folds in the production of the special and standard voices.
