One of the most civilized nations in history, China has a long-standing writing tradition and many Chinese texts have become world treasures. However, the way that Chinese is taught in various countries in the world, especially how to write Chinese, is little known to the outside world, especially in Western countries. Traditionally, the Chinese have established well used methods of writing instruction. However, social and political developments around the world have created the perception amongst practitioners and researchers of a need for change to a more modern, enlightened approach. Socio-political changes, both in Mainland China and elsewhere, have stimulated reflection and reform of the ways children are taught how to write compositions. Educators in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore have each developed modern and innovative ways to teach of composition. The book draws together experiences.
